YouTube should make an “auto-play videos” setting that’s global and persistent, because I keep having to toggle it off

It’s happened countless times.

After watching too many YouTube auto-playing videos, I turn off YouTube’s “AUTOPLAY” toggle in the app or the browser. Soon thereafter I’m finding myself (this time in a different browser) having to toggle the setting off again.

Millions of people are very likely having the same experience, because it’s how the service has been designed. Despite using a single Google account, I find myself watching videos in different browsers and apps — this means I need to turn off this setting periodically in piecemeal fashion.

On the hill, a bill has been proposed to curb “addicting” features, while I think the bill is overbearing – these companies certainly could do themselves (and users) a favor by giving users better choices and respecting their time.

Another thing: I always toggle this setting to “off”, but – it seems like I’ve had to perform this action dozens of times over the past year. Maybe my memory is failing, but it seems like the setting doesn’t stick very well, even for given viewing contexts.
